Testimonials
Melissa and the therapists at Sensory Kids seem to have a never-ending supply of energy and patience. They always engage my daughter with activities that are tailored for her issues, but they always make them fun for her. My daughter always looks forward to OT, and is always smiling after.

When we brought Hugh to Sensory Kids, he was 3 years and 4 months and was not answering yes or no questions, did a lot of echolalia, he was just starting to be potty trained, was very unbalanced and disorganized, and had trouble communicating his needs and wants to us, especially in long full sentences. He had done speech therapy before, but it never really sunk in all that well because he had so much trouble sitting for the SLP and listening to her directions. We didn't know until later that he had symptoms of Auditory Processing Disorder, which can be helped by the Listening therapy we did at Sensory Kids.
By the 1st week of his listening therapy and intensive OT, he was totally potty trained (even at night!), he started to tune in to our voices (it was like he knew that we were there) and was much more in tune with what was going on around him. Though I was told these results aren't typical, I can only describe the results of this therapy as a light bulb turning on in his brain that made him aware of his surroundings.
After week 2 (We also included 5 days a week of speech therapy with Katie Curra @ kids Language center) Hugh was answering yes and no questions, making jokes with us, asking for things in full sentences, and singing completely in tune to some of his favorite music. He was a different child! It’s like he woke up form a deep sleep and was now interested in the world around him, and not just in how he could crash into it, or jump somewhere. He was making connections to things that we were amazed by. He excelled in his speech therapy and picked up a lot of new phrases that he uses correctly now. I know that without this OT and LT, he would never have been able to grasp the meaning of any of these things.
He has since become much more social with other children, letting them come and play with him. He still has a little trouble communicating, but I know that this will come with more therapy here and continued exposure to other children at school. He is also much better at letting us know when he needs to do his "exercises" (His at home sensory diet program that you provided us with), and he seems to know what helps him modulate himself.
The sensory diet has proven to be one of the most helpful tools we have at home too. He is so excited to do his different activities each day, and there is a noticeable difference in his demeanor when he's done with them too. Thank you so much for your personalized plan!
We are so thankful to have found you and your program. All of your staff is so attentive and professional, and they are very knowledgeable about Sensory Processing difficulties. You are still the best teacher he has ever had, and truly a hero in my eyes. Thank you so much for making this journey easier for all of us!

My son Toby experienced Sensory Integration issues, a deficit in auditory processing and delays in speech, gross & fine motor which started to become apparent around 6 months of age.
We qualified for services with Birth to 3 and were assigned an Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist and Physical Therapist. We made steady progress but we needed to do better if we were going to catch up to Toby’s true developmental age.
I investigated 2 clinics offering Sensory OT in the area and was impressed with the facilities at Sensory Kids and Melissa’s dedication to helping children who find themselves in this space, we started immediately attending first one session per week then two.
Melissa felt Toby would benefit from an intensive block of Sound Therapy, I had no idea how she was going to keep a set of headphones on a boy who had just turned 2 but she seemed confident!
Looking back now with the experience of having tried many therapies, Intensive Sound Therapy has been one of the most successful interventions, (alongside dietary change) with new words coming out of Toby’s mouth every day plus an improvement in cognition. In total our first block was 30 sessions and we periodically boosted with smaller blocks when appropriate.
We now live in Australia, Toby (now 4) continues with his TLP home program 5 days per week and we also do occasional in office boost sessions when we can find some spare time in our crazy schedules.
Toby continues to progress well though he does still have deficits in gross & fine motor skills and fairly significant auditory processing issues. He undertook a language assessment last week and despite his auditory processing challenge he tested above average a definite “it’s all been worthwhile” moment!
Thanks to the team at Sensory Kids you have shown great compassion, kindness, knowledge and skill not only in the area of Sensory OT but in Sound Therapy.
All the very best.

Through a fortunate series of occurrences we found Sensory Kids in January 2004. Over the period of the next six months through the services of Sensory Kids our 16 year old son who was a junior in high school was able to successfully focus on his school work. He has always been extremely intelligent however due to his inability to write legibly his written communication skills were extremely poor. He always understood his schoolwork but seemed unable or unwilling to complete all of his assignments so his academic grades never reflected his true ability.
After completing the therapy suggested by Melissa not only did his handwriting improve but his ability to include details in his written work as well as, his ability to focus and plan were all vastly improved. Included in his successes, in the Spring of 2004, were attaining a perfect score of 800 on the chemistry SAT II test as well as the perfect score of 5 on the Advanced Placement Chemistry test. This year he is enrolled in three advanced placement courses and he has achieved the highest grades of all his high school years. We attribute his success to the integrative listening therapy prescribed by Sensory Kids.
We strongly recommend Sensory Kids and would be willing to speak to anyone on their behalf.

My seven year old son entered occupational therapy with every conceivable sensory challenge. He began the Listening Program after several months of O.T. We saw positive subtle changes immediately, followed by some intense, negative behavioral changes, which gradually lessened until he finally "settled in" to his new, integrated self.
Previously, he was alternately spacey, distractible or not tuned in. Several weeks into the Dynamic Listening program, these traits, for the most part, disappeared.
Academically, he is performing at grade level and socially he has come many, many miles. He even put on a musical singing performance at his school, which was completely his own idea.
My son no longer needs occupational therapy and is currently doing the home-based listening program. He gravitates towards the program because he knows that when he finishes, he always feels more centered and happy.
I strongly recommend the Dynamic Listening program. Although it is a huge time commitment, it is definitely worth the investment.
Cheers to Melissa and Sensory Kids.
