Listening Programs

We offer two different – but complementary – types of listening therapies: the Integrated Listening System (a Tomatis-based approach) and several Advanced Brain Technologies programs.

Integrated Listening System

The Integrated Listening System is a psychoacoustic therapeutic approach, developed by Dr. Ron Minson and based on the pioneering work of Dr. Alfred Tomatis, using the most advanced technology available.

The ability to listen and differentiate between sounds affects cortical stimulation and nerve pathways related to the following areas:

  • Organization, modulation and attention
  • Speech and language skills
  • Cognitive development
  • Learning and academics
  • Movement, coordination and rhythm
  • Socialization
  • Creativity and personal growth

DLS programs are available primarily in the clinic setting. In addition, we offer a DLS home program that integrates movement with music and that has four preset protocols.

We customize each DLS-based program to a child’s needs, and we support it with home programs, sensory diets and therapeutic services tailored specifically for each child. The result is auditory re-education, which can facilitate remarkable progress toward a child’s targeted functions.

Advanced Brain Technologies Programs

Research has shown that stimulating brain neurons creates new synaptic connections, Advanced Brain Technologies (ABT) has developed a number of innovative programs that train brain function at its core.

The Listening Program (TLP) is a music-based, auditory-stimulation method that builds the auditory skills children need to effectively listen, learn and communicate. TLP consists of high-quality audio CDs that integrate specially produced acoustic music with innovative sound-processing techniques that enhance neuroplasticity. Benefits from TLP include:

  • Sensory processing skills
  • Learning skills and creativity
  • Speech and language skills
  • Memory and attention
  • Socialization and communication
  • Auditory processing

iListen is The Listening Program delivered via an iPod® player and amplifier. Also available is iListen with Bone Conduction technology, which combines the experience of listening to music with subtle vibration of the skin and skeletal system. This combination engages a child’s entire body and brain in the listening process.

Learning Ears adds a speech component to The Listening Program so children can work on enhancing their speech along with their listening skills. It is particularly useful for improving reading comprehension and attention, language and speech, reading fluency, and communication and social skills.
